Abstract

The mental well-being and burnout levels of teachers exert a substantial influence on their professional performance and, consequently, on the development of their students. Maintaining a balance between job demands and available resources is a key factor in preventing burnout, as high demands coupled with insufficient resources are known to increase burnout risk. This study, conducted at the Somogy County Pedagogical Service between December 2023 and January 2024, aimed to assess employees’ perceptions of workplace demands and resources. The “Workplace Demands and Resources Questionnaire” was administered to 101 professionals. Consistent with the institution's profile and aligned with the regulatory framework defined by Decree 15/2013 of the Hungarian Ministry of Human Resources, the majority of participants were special education teachers and psychologists from various specializations. The findings reveal that 89.1% of respondents perceived more workplace resources than demands, with a mean workload index of -1.03. This suggests a favorable institutional climate that may contribute to burnout prevention. However, analysis by age group indicated that employees aged 51–55 reported the highest perceived workload. This may be attributed to age-related challenges such as post-COVID fatigue and the increasing burden of digital administrative tasks. Overall, the results support the presence of a positive workplace climate while underscoring the need for targeted support for middle-aged and older professionals to ensure sustainable organizational well-being.
