About the Journal

Aims and Scope

Based on the idea of the "active citizen", the Civil Review (Civil Szemle) publishes so-called "community studies" that are scientifically and professionally relevant but does not follow the excessive scientific rigor of academic journals, in order to be read by intellectuals and professionals seeking information.

The Civil Review (Civil Szemle) is a theoretical journal: a quarterly publication on civil society, social movements, and nonprofit organizations. Based ont the previous achievements, the journal attempts to integrate into international trends. In addition to monitoring the development of the Hungarian civil society sector, it is open to the international arena and makes a conscious effort to present developments in the European region. It has extensive professional and academic contacts in Central and Eastern Europe and is developing its professional cooperation with experts from the Balkans and the Caucasus.

The periodical aims to cover all segments of the civil/nonprofit sector and civil society. In terms of disciplines, it is open to all kinds of social sciences, which, from their own perspective, interpret the civil sphere and its phenomena. At the same time, it also recognizes the interdisciplinary approach as it is required by the diverse nature of the topic. Recognizing and demonstrating this variegation, Civil Review aims to contribute to the institutionalization and recognition of the civil/nonprofit sector as an independent discipline.

The journal aims to cover all segments of the NGO/non-profit sector and civil society. In terms of disciplines, it is open to all branches of the social sciences, which interpret the civil sector and its phenomena from their perspective, while recognizing the interdisciplinary approach that the multifaceted nature of the subject justifies and requires. While recognizing and highlighting this diversity, the Civil Review (Civil Szemle) aims to contribute to the institutionalization and recognition of the civil/non-profit sector as an independent discipline. The journal accepts abstracts in Hungarian and English, and manuscripts if abstracts are accepted. There is no cost to the author for the evaluation of manuscripts. Submitted articles that fit the journal's profile will be evaluated by the editorial team with the help of external experts to determine whether they meet the requirements for publication. All submissions for publication must be original, i.e., not under review by another journal or previously published elsewhere.

Civil Review (Civil Szemle) is published four times a year (March, June, September, December). Each issue is freely accessible and can be downloaded free of charge from the Civil Review (Civil Szemle) website (https://www.civilszemle.hu/)
