Eyelid Surgeries Today: Focus on Functionality and Quality of Life
Abstract
Modern eyelid surgery focuses on functional outcome and aesthetic expectations of certain interventions. Clinicians need to be expert in the diagnosis and surgical management of these conditions, and in the preoperative assessment and appropriate management of expectations. The description of most common abnormal eyelid positions: dermatochalasis, ptosis, entropion as well as ectropion is included in this article. Reconstructive techniques and their potential complications are discussed, presenting the wide range of clinical and surgical challenges. The ideal intervention combines the restoration of optimal eyelid function and aesthetic harmony, providing patients with both good visual function and a natural, healthy appearance.
