Abstract

Wound healing is a complex biochemical process involving many cell types. Normal wound healing takes 5–14 days. If the process is disturbed, prolonged wound healing occurs for a number of reasons. Correct diagnosis is important before treatment and complex treatment should be carried out accordingly, which in most cases involves a combination of appropriate systemic and top ical therapy. There are differet methods of topical treatment, which should be chosen according to the characteristics of the wound. This article summarises the treatment options available in the different stages of wound healing.
