Abstract

Published in 1923, the Borgyogyaszati, Urologiai és Venerologiai Szemle (BUVSZ) – now known without the word „Urologiai” (BVSZ) – is a significant milestone in the history of the Hungarian medical journals. In the context of the 100th anniversary of the journal, the authors examine the historicity of the formal transformation of the BVSZ and make only the most necessary reference to changes in its content. In doing so, they depart from the
usual analytical approach of similar writings, but carefully show how the Review has adapted to the ceaseless challenges of scholarly communication. They show the sacrificial work of the editorial staff in bringing the journal into the 21st century, how the renewed quality of print publishing has taken its place in the digital world. After a historical overview, the authors have examined the data on the BVSZ that can be extracted from the internationally accepted bibliographic databases. In presenting the current position of the paper, the aim was to be factual and not to analyse the reasons for the current outcome. Emphasis has been placed on open access data sources that are widely monitored and have a sufficiently scientific information set and reliable search algorithms. The authors believe that their paper is intended to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Journal, but also to point the way towards its inclusion in international databases by demonstrating the benefits of the Open Journal
System (OJS), which is important for the future development of the content of the BVSZ.
