Trends in safety and tourism

Keywords: tourism, terrorism

Abstract

Safety is of fundamental importance to people, a fact supported by the results of the questionnaire survey. Tourists prefer to visit countries where public safety is adequate and there is no threat of terrorism. At the same time, there is a specific type of tourism product where visitors actively seek out experiences associated with death.

The survey reveals that respondents fear terrorism the most. While a lack of safety generally has a negative impact on a country's tourism sector, this is not always reflected in the number of inbound tourists.

In terms of factors prompting them to avoid a specific destination, respondents ranked health risks, the threat of natural disasters, and high crime rates immediately after the threat of terrorism.
