Abstract

This study explores the religious orientation and the spiritual dimensions in the poetry of the Hungarian poet Ágnes Nemes Nagy (1922-1991). The first part treats of the evolution of her relationship with God expressed in the poems. After an initial loss of trust in God, there follows a phase of tacit “conversion” which, at the same time indicates the discovery of her own distinctive path – both in a human-spiritual and a poetic-artistic sense. The second part prepares the way for the third theme, namely, the notion of „intermediaries”, with the help of literary, theological and esthetic analyses.
