Lay Ministries in the Church and the Piarist Order
Abstract
After the Second Vatican Council, an intense process of discernment began regarding the role of the laity in the Church. Certain institutionalized ecclesial ministries were introduced, and the possibility of establishing new ministries was opened. Following ministries related to the liturgy and the administration of the sacraments, the introduction of the ministry of catechist marked a new stage in evangelization by assigning an institutionalized minister to this area as well. We will briefly review the most important points of the Council and papal teachings concerning the question of lay ministry. As a result of a discernment process initiated within the Piarist Order, four piarist ministries were introduced in the Pious Schools. We will review their main characteristics and examine the possibilities for their introduction in Hungary.
