Present and Future Prospects for EU’s LNG Imports
Abstract
The European Union's energy policy is undergoing radical changes in the context of theambitious objectives of the European Green Deal package of proposals published in December2019. The EU's demand for natural gas is expected to increase during the transition period, especially in regions that have switched to the use of highly polluting coal. The studydescribes the non-EU exporters of LNG and the distribution of the EU’s LNG consumption. The list of EU projects of common interest (PCI) for 2019 includes four new LNG terminalprojects (Irish, Croatian, Greek, and Polish). The European Commission published its fifthPCI list in 2021, which also provided a good opportunity to review the relevant projects. Inthis context, I will also present the professional forecasts published last time on the impact ofthe Covid19-pandemic on the natural gas market (LNG imports).
