Abstract

On June 28–29, 2022, the Heads of state and government at the NATO summit in Madrid made some very important decisions, like the approval of the new Strategic Concept and long-term strengthening of deterrence and defence. The article examines the military reinforcement of Europe, presents and evaluates the new NATO Force Model. It reviews NATO’s forward military presence, examines the strengthening of NRF and measures to improve military readiness. It outlines the theoretical possibilities to implement the new Force Model, points out the essence of the strategic change: NATO’s forward presence will be replaced by forward defence. The article argues that the new Force Model will represent a new turn in NATO development if the member states invest more in the armed force and defence. Citius, Altius, Fortius.
