The estimated number of the injured and dead after an earthquake – Part 2.

Abstract

Perhaps one of the most dangerous natural disasters are the earthquakes, if we take into consideration the sudden happening, the expected harmful effects and the shortness of the defence time. In the neighbouring countries there are numerous large cities, where the earthquake risks are high. The chance of occurring in Hungary is relatively low, and it can happen that the sign ificant earthquakes evade the country for decades or centuries. Independently from it, in the previous part of this article there are the fully explained Croatian example, which shows that it is a huge mistake not to calculate with the High Impact low Probability Events. For the organisation viewpoints of the earthquake defence, it is a must to examine the building plans and structures of the settlements, the seasons, time and not just do only the historical data analysis. The authors continue the previous article, searching the possibilities of early preparation and the suggested decisions for commanders dealing with high impact events.
