Possible consequences and challenges to military medicine posed by COVID-19

Keywords: COVID-19, bioterrorism, military hospital, mass casualty care

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic transformed everyday life in many respects, however it is still to be answered how the novel influenza will affect the mechanics of islamist terrorist organisations: will the terrorist acts of mass shootings and bombings be combined with bioterrorism - be it the intentional spread of COVID19 or the use of other biological weapons? According to the literature we have to count on both scenarios, even worse that crowded hospitals, especially military hospitals could be the targets of future terrorist attacks. That is why it is essential to have military medicine well prepared to be able to handle mass casualty care for victims of mass shootings, bombings and bioterrorism as well.
