The Relevance of Overseas Military Bases Nowadays

Abstract

The publication presents the theoretical background of the establishment of overseas military bases, the nature of the force projection and the related activities, infrastructural elements, general types of different military bases, and the factors to be taken into account when establishing military bases. The writing points out that, despite technical advances, distant, overseas bases and military forces will continue to play a significant role in enforcing the interests of nations, even today and also in future conflicts. The study is relevant, because in the present and in the future Hungary will provide even more space for the base-structure of the Alliance and possibly the United States, and since the change of regime Hungary has been regularly (continuously) present beyond the country’s borders by military forces.
