Thoughts on Autonomous Decision-Making and Responsibilities of Robots

Abstract

Thanks to the rapid development of the technology, we have machines to execute more and more tasks, moreover, we tend to rely ourselves more and more to the decisionmaking of machines. This is particularly valid to military operations, which technology has always played an important role in. There are, however, many concerns regarding the autonomous decision-making of robots used on the battlefield, especially in cases, where the life or death is at stake. Can a machine be blamed if it does not take right decision? If not, who takes the responsibility for machines’ decisions? The present article is looking for answers to those questions.
