Why does someone become a soldier? The life of Kornél Martin

Abstract

The author of the article intends to introduce Kornél Martin’s life and carrier as military cadet, second lieutenant of armour, prisoner of war and later on chemical engineer. Kornél Martin was promoted to second lieutenant on August 20th, 1944. He began his military carrier in the Szent László Infantry Division, his unit fought to defend the Ipoly riverside, where he felt into Russian captivity and became prisoner of war. After his release he completed Technical University and tried to get along in civil life. He worked for the Physical-Chemical Institute of the Frankfurt am Main and Saarbrücken University and received his doctorate. He published numerous articles on the history of his cadet’s life.
