Abstract
The author's standpoint is that cultural antropology is an important science from a military aspect too, but its role is not yet fully determinated especially in the Hungarian Army. It helps to understand the local culture and the individual behaviour and it also supplies the comander's decision-making process. The antropologist does not have enough time on the battlefield for immediate analysis of experiences, and so the data and conclusions are ambivalent. There is an opposition between practical reason and science from an ethical dimension too. The author illustrates this problem with examples. The American model is applicable in the missions.
