Miklós M. Szabó: History of Zrínyi Miklós Military College 1980-1989

Abstract

The new book of Miklós Szabó, the historian and the Member of the Hungarian Academy and Sciences reviews the period of Eighties in the development of Zrínyi Miklós Military College. Using the same research methodology of previous books the Author objectively analises 10-years-long historical period of the Hungarian higher military institution. The I. Chapter discusses the foreign and security environment of the College activites. In the II. Chapter the former Commendant and Rector of the College reviews the historical development of the Hungarian People's Army during that period. The III.-V. Chapters examines the historical events of the decade. In his review the critic emphasies that the ongoing integration of Zrínyi Miklós Defence University inti a new National Public Service University gives a special reading flavour of the book. Having red the book the reader unintentionnaly trying to support under the civilian-led university? It is a very important question since General Szabó's book justifies that all defence college success achieved during ten years were posible because the college was the integral part of the former Military. The change of this link represents an enormous challange for the new University leadership, the MOD and the international cooperation.
