The pratice of the use of force during UN peace-keeping operations

Abstract
The aim of the present article is to sum up, through referring to several statements of the professional literature, as well as illustrating with some experiences gained from execution of operations, how the practice of the use of force during UN peace-keeping operations evolved during the last couple of decades. This study lays particular emphasis on the question of self-defense, the effect of mandates specified in UN Security Council resolutions and Rules of Engagement to mission accomplishment. The author attempts to summarize those important questions connected to use of force that are to be answered in order to improve the efficiency of UN peace operations.
