Some consequences of multi-shift jobs in military service and their management options

Abstract

In multi-shift jobs, at least 50% of the work during military service is outside the period between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The essence of the conflict in these jobs is: persistently high performance requirements and a significant risk of accidents in the conditions of jobs organized at an unusual rhythm, which is different from the average. In addition to the inability to sleep, during the day we can expect not only drowsiness, but also memory and attention deficit, exhaustion syndrome, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular consequences. Accident risk increases, work performance decreases. Severe dysphoria may develop. Commanders who introduce and order shifts have a significant role to play in preventing the development of chronic sleep disorders. Severe dysphoria may develop. There is a large number of shift workers in the military, and scheduling their work and rest is very important because the right shifts and the defence options used play a huge difference in their quality of life.
