China and its Social Credit System

Abstract

According to publicised data, China is well on its way to launching a nation-wide social credit system in 2020 that measures, evaluates, rewards and punishes the behaviour of citizens and businesses. After presenting relevant data and information on China, my paper addresses the non-Chinese antecedents of the social credit system, the problem of accessing limited resources, the antecedents and operation of the system, and the main findings of my own research based on online document- and content analysis, and text mining.
