A Critique of Organic War Theory in the Context of Contemporary War Ideologies

Abstract

The study examines the relevance of organic war theory within the geopolitical and ideological landscape of the 21st century. It explores how the metaphor of society as a living organism has been used to conceptualize war as a purifying or healing intervention aimed at removing internal “foreign” or “corrupt” elements. This perspective has re-emerged in contemporary political rhetoric, notably within Russian discourse, where military actions are framed as moral and spiritual obligations. The study analyzes the implications of this organic framework on modern conceptions of war and peace, highlighting a shift wherein war, unrest, and fear are no longer seen as destructive forces but as necessary means to preserve the health of the societal organism. It concludes that the organic view of war continues to shape contemporary ideologies, influencing how conflicts are justified and perceived in the modern era.
