Maoism and the Global Jihad
Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the impact of Maoist guerrilla theory on irregular armed movements in the Third World, with particular attention to cases where these movements were organized on ideologically distinct foundations. In this context, we also seek to assess the extent to which Mao’s principles of warfare can be considered universal. The first part of the study reviews the fundamental theoretical pillars of Maoist guerrilla strategy, while the second part analyzes how major Islamist organizations have adapted these principles in their own operations, with special focus on cases where direct points of connection can be identified.
