Az orosz-ukrán háború hatása a kötelező katonai szolgálat intézményére Európában

Abstract

The end of the bipolar world order brought fundamental changes in military policy on both sides of the former Iron Curtain. Most decision-makers believed that the era of mass armies had ended, and that future armed forces should rely exclusively on professional personnel performing mission-based tasks under UN and NATO mandates. The paradigm shift came with Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, although the 2014 annexation of Crimea had already served as a serious warning. As a result of these events, an increasing number of European states have reintroduced or reinforced various forms of compulsory military service, and this tendency is expected to continue. The question remains how Hungary’s defence policy will adapt to these developments.
